A leavers checklist should ensure that both the employee and their line manager know what the expectations are in terms of the leaving process. They both need a copy which should be kept up to date, so it can act as a reminder of anything that needs action.
While a checklist is helpful, it is an aide memoire, and should not simply become a tick-box exercise. It should be the responsibility of the manager to ensure all items are properly addressed, and any specific requirements of the individual role are addressed (e.g., in terms of handover, property to be handed back, discussion regarding confidentiality obligations, etc.).
