Neill Fairchild

Neill Fairchild has worked his way up the ladder at QBE, from performing general admin tasks on a fixed-term contract to becoming a senior multinational claims technician. Pre-QBE

Neill completed a business degree at Manchester Metropolitan University, before working in several roles over the next few years. This included time in adrnin at an energy firm working in debt collection and two years teaching English in the south of France.

2014

Joins QBE

Neill joins QBE on a fixed-term contract as an office administrator in the property department, based in Leeds, UK. in September of 2014.

2015

Becomes Junior Property Claims Handler

After an opportunity to move to a permanent contract arises. Neill becomes a full-time part of QBE in August, advancing from his administrative role into handling claims within the property department.

I arrived at 28 knowing less than zero about insurance. You're constantly learning in the early days. I found that difficult, but with experience, perseverance and speaking to more experienced colleagues, I knew I could lean on them to guide me through.

2016

Secures Certificate in Insurance

Being a permanent employee enables Neill to begin working towards his CII Certificate in Insurance qualification, starting his studies in January and passing the final exam in March 2016.

Now I've got a firm grasp of the insurance industry, all the things I'm doing are helping enrich my skills. These studies are really useful in reinforcing what I've learned day-to-day from my colleagues to help me progress up the ladder.

Moves to Multinational Insurance team

Neill moves from the property department to multinational claims in the summer of 2016, following in the footsteps of his previous manager.

2020

Achieves Diploma in Insurance

Securing his second major industry qualification. theCII Diploma in Insurance, after intensive study and more exams, Neill furthers his development as he moves up the ladder.

QBE has supported me all the way through my qualifications. They've paid for these exams and given me study time. It's been really good in terms of how the studies incorporate my role, giving me that extra understanding and insight about the insurance world.

Gains promotion to Senior Multinational Claims Technician

Neill continues to progress his career, moving to a coordination role spanning different multinational divisions as a Senior Claims Technician.

2021

Completes QBE Customer Advocacy Programme

As well as formal industry qualifications, 1 Neill has used the QBE Learn resources 2021 - 1 to support his development throughout his career. Among his most recent courses was the Customer Advocacy Programme, which he completed in late 2021 after an eight-week study period fitted around his work.

2022

Continuing development

Neill is continuing to pursue professional qualifications in order to progress his career, and is currently studying for his Advanced Diploma in Insurance to further his understanding of the industry and open up more doors for the future.

Earning these qualifications has increased my profile within the insurance industry. Seeing it against your name gives you some gravitas and respect, and signifies you have a good level of knowledge. They've helped me understand the underlying concepts and given me a firm grasp of insurance.
