QBE appoints Chief Underwriting Officer for International division

  • Stephanie Cryer has been promoted from Head of Product Leaders to CUO, effective 1 April
  • She takes over from Nick Hankin, who was appointed Managing Director for QBE Re in January

QBE, the business insurer, has appointed Stephanie Cryer as Chief Underwriting Officer (CUO) for its International division, effective 1 April 2026, subject to regulatory approval. 

In her new role, Stephanie will report to Jason Harris, Chief Executive Officer, QBE International and will join QBE’s International Executive Management Board. She will be working closely with Peter Burton, QBE Group Chief Underwriting Officer. 

Stephanie joined QBE in 2017 as Head of Property before progressing to Head of Product Leaders in 2021, leading product strategy, wordings and underwriting controls across multiple lines and jurisdictions. She has over 30 years of experience covering all major product lines and geographies, with previous roles at Chubb and ACE (now Chubb).  

She takes over from Nick Hankin, who was appointed Managing Director of QBE Re, effective 1 January 2026.

Her extensive experience and knowledge of the market make her a good fit for this role. I’m pleased that we’ve been able to make this appointment from within QBE. It’s a reflection of the calibre of our leaders at QBE and our strong commitment to supporting and recognising talent within the International division.” 

QBE International will be announcing a new Head of Product Leaders in due course.
